Boards and Commissions
The City of Live Oak utilizes the services of citizen volunteers to serve on all City Boards and Commissions. Boards and Commissions are integral component of the governance of the City, and therefore require the service of interested individuals who have a passion for service.

In order to facilitate these volunteer services, the City has included the application form below for service on Board & Commissions. You may also contact us at info@liveoaktx.net for more information on how you can get involved. Your application will be kept in file for 6 months.
Qualifications for Appointment
The City of Live Oak’s Code of Ordinances establishes that persons who have resided in the City for at least twelve (12) months shall be considered for appointment to City boards and commissions unless otherwise provided in the Code.
Selection Process
Nominations to boards and commissions, unless otherwise provided by the Charter or the Code of Ordinances, shall be made by the Council members. The City Council shall confirm nominations for appointment to the board or commission in order for an appointment to be effective.
Animal Control Advisory Committee
The Animal Control Advisory Committee monitors the work conducted at the Live Oak Animal Control Facility and brainstorms ways to better serve our citizens in terms of animal care and control.
The committee meets three times annually. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Dangerous Structure Determination Board (DSDB)
The Dangerous Structure Determination Board (DSDB) hears cases regarding distressed buildings and structures within city limits and makes appropriate findings to remedy them.
This board meets on an as-needed basis. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Economic Development Corporation (EDC)
The Economic Development Corporation facilitates the growth and development of existing businesses while also laying the foundation for effectively recruiting new companies to the area. This is achieved through the development and implementation of strategic programs. These broad and diverse economic development initiatives aim to increase the property and sales tax base for the City of Live Oak, create a dynamic economic environment for businesses, and enhance the quality of life for residents. The EDC Board is a decision-making board.
Meetings are typically scheduled for the last Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Ethics Review Board
The Ethics Review Board was created in 2006 with the passing of the City’s Ethics Ordinance. The ordinance aims to establish standards of conduct that promote public confidence in city government. The board has the jurisdiction to investigate alleged violations and make findings and recommendations. This board is a decision-making board.
Meetings are scheduled as needed at 6:30 p.m., with one annual Ethics Review Board meeting held in December. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Parks & Recreation Commission and Tree Care Board
The Parks and Recreation Commission assists city staff with planning parks and recreation programs and carrying out assigned tasks for city events. Members help with various duties, including manning event booths, decorating for events, and assisting with cleanup. This commission is an advisory board only.
Meetings are held quarterly on the 2nd Tuesday in January, April, July and October at 6:00 p.m. The Tree Care Board meets at 6:00 p.m. and Parks & Recreation meets afterward. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Planning and Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission is responsible for recommending the creation and modification of zoning districts to the City Council, as well as reviewing and approving land plats submitted for filing with Bexar County. The commission works with Development Services and Economic Development to address city development needs. Duties include hearing zoning cases, specific use permits, and plat approvals. Citizens are encouraged to attend and voice their views on these matters. This commission is a decision-making board.
The meetings are scheduled for the last Thursday before the last Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM, as needed. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Visit Live Oak Advisory Board
The Visit Live Oak Advisory Board evaluates events based on their compliance with the laws governing the use of HOT Funds (Hotel Occupancy Tax) as outlined in the Texas Tax Code. The board also assesses an organization’s ability to attract tourism from outside the area. The board reviews applications from organizations and presents recommendations to the City Council for final approval.
The board meets twice a year or as needed. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
Zoning Board of Adjustment
The Zoning Board of Adjustment provides a process for citizens to appeal zoning interpretations and decisions made by the Building Official. The board also considers variance requests and makes final decisions regarding changes, variances, and the re-establishment or termination of nonconforming uses within the city. This is a decision-making board.
Meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month or as needed. All meetings are held at City Hall in the Council Chambers.
